Ron Roenicke has been named interim manager of the Boston Red Sox, with expectations of taking over permanently after MLB’s investigation concludes.
The Boston Red Sox have officially announced that Ron Roenicke will be their interim manager. All indications point to Roenicke dropping the interim tag as soon as Major League Baseball concludes their investigation into the Red Sox.
All indications are that Roenicke will not be included in the investigation.
Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom stated at Tuesday’s press conference:

"“I want to say a couple of things about the interim tag on this title. After talking through it as an organization, we felt that naming Ron our interim manager was the best way to respect the investigation that’s ongoing into our 2018 club, but we feel very strongly about Ron’s ability to lead this group and how well suited he is for this task.”"
Ron Roenicke has been in baseball on and off since 1981 when he broke into the majors with the Los Angeles Dodgers as an outfielder. Ron’s first stint as a manager came in 2011 with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he spent five years and compiled a 343-331 record.
Roenicke has been with the Boston Red Sox as a bench coach for the last two seasons.
Roenicke will take over a very different Boston Red Sox team then he helped with last year. With the recent trade of Mookie Betts and David Price and the lack of major off-season additions, this may turn into a challenging season.
With the rival New York Yankees acquiring more talent and the Tampa Bay Rays also improving, it’s very hard to see a path to the playoffs this season for the Red Sox.
