The utility man who can play anywhere on the diamond finally has a team as Brock Holt takes his talents to the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Milwaukee Brewers may not be in the market for top of the line free agents, but they are all about signing blue-collar, workhorses. They proved this once again by bringing in Brock Holt, the versatile infielder/outfielder on a one year contract with a club option for a second year.

Holt flirted with the Cincinnati Reds and Toronto Blue Jays earlier in the spring and was oft-rumored to be in the mix to return to the Boston Red Sox, was reluctant to take a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

In the end, he didn’t need to as the Brewers came through with a guaranteed major league agreement.

Holt who has played every position on the ballfield save pitcher and catcher will definitely have a positive impact on his new team. With the Brewers also bringing in Eric Sogard, Luis Urias, and Jedd Gyorko the fight for playing time will be intense.

Holt is a career .271 hitter and was an All-Star back in 2015 with the Red Sox. He earned that nod by playing in 129 games and logging 509 plate appearances. Injuries, including bouts with vertigo and anxiety, have limited his playing time since.

The Milwaukee Brewers are in trouble though if they are giving him 500 plate appearances. Holt will play around the diamond, giving the regulars a breather every now and again, and be put into games as a late-inning defensive replacement.

This is a solid acquisition for a team trying to get back to the playoffs for the second year in a row.
