Anthony Rizzo is one of those understated, elite H2H fantasy baseball first basemen. Year in and year out, he’ll produce 500+ points, rarely ever producing a day with negative point totals.
The Steamer system projects Rizzo to produce at similar levels to 2019 this season, which is promising, especially considering that he’s entering the 2020 season fully healthy. Definitely make Rizzo one of your top options for a first basemen, then sit back and watch the points come rolling in.
2. Pete Alonso, New York Mets
2019 MLB Season: .260 AVG / .941 OPS / 30 2B / 2 3B / 53 HR / 120 RBI
2020 STEAMER: .252 AVG / .878 OPS / 27 2B / 2 3B / 44 HR / 105 RBI
Last season, Pete Alonso took the world by storm, setting the rookie home run record at 53 and winning the National League Rookie of the Year award. It’s not exactly what anybody saw coming from the “Polar Bear,” but boy was it fun to watch.
This season, the Steamer system projects Alonso to have a bit of a drop-off. Naturally, you can’t expect a player to mash 50 home runs with regularity. The decline won’t be so bad that it won’t be an elite option at the position.
Expect some Fantasy Baseball owners in H2H leagues to draft Alonso first when selecting a first baseman.
1. Freddie Freeman, Atlanta Braves
2019 MLB Season: .295 AVG / .938 OPS / 34 2B / 2 3B / 38 HR / 121 RBI
2020 STEAMER: .293 AVG / .927 OPS / 36 2B / 2 3B / 33 HR / 103 RBI
Entering the 2020 MLB season, Freddie Freeman is battling injuries, which might not make him much of an attractive option at first. If you have the flexibility to start him on the IL, then feel free to take him as your number one option at first base.
