Miami Marlins:Víctor Víctor Mesa reassigned to minor league camp
Miami Marlins prospect Victor Victor Mesa was assigned to minor league camp yesterday after a dismal spring with the bat.
HIALEAH,FL– Miami Marlins prospect Victor Victor Mesa‘s output this spring disappointed many who thought that he was finally turning the corner. It’s even more disappointing when you consider the impressive performance he had in the Arizona Fall League that saw him hit .271 and also saw him named the best arm of the league.
Mesa even earned a spot in the fall league all-star game with his play.

The native of Villa Clara worked tirelessly this winter with Miami based batting guru Ricardo Sosa and made vital adjustments to his swing and technique.
Although his offensive output has always been suspect his defense has always been Major League caliber.
Last season the young Cuban won a Rawlings Gold Glove in the minors. Víctor Víctor finished the season with a fielding percentage of 1.000 and 11 assists in 102 combined games between A+ (Jupiter) and AA (Jacksonville)
Mesa who hit a paltry .200 this camp has definitely was not up to par at the plate and was obviously in need of more work in the minors. Although he only got 10 at-bats with the big club it was clear that the prospect was overmatched by the pitching at the Major League level and only drove in one run.
Since he arrived with the club as a highly-touted prospect Mesa has been in a free fall in its prospect rankings. In fact he was the #1 international prospect when he signed in 2018 for $5.25M, but since then he has seen himself fall from 1st to13th to a current 26th in the organization prospect depth chart.
Although he has worked hard on correcting his inability to make quality contact it has been his Achilles heel and caused his descent through the Fish’s prospect rankings.
Miami Marlins prospect Victor Victor Mesa hasn’t been assigned a level at minor league camp but it is expected that the fleet-footed prospect will start the year at Double-A Jacksonville.
