The Toronto Blue Jays hit six home runs in their beat down on the Baltimore Orioles, showing they could be a hitting force in the AL East this year.

Spring Training is a lot of fun, especially when you score fourteen runs on fourteen hits, half of which are of the extra base variety. The Toronto Blue Jays took the Baltimore Orioles to the wood shed in a good old-fashioned spring training beat down today.

The pitchers who took the beating all had major league experience, though Mychal Givens is the only one being accused of being of major league quality. The story is not about the poor Orioles pitching though, it’s the bats of the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Jays scored early and often as they raced out to a 9-0 lead after two innings and the damage came from the muscle Toronto will flex at the top of the order.

Bo Bichette hit a leadoff home run and doubled and scored in the second inning. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. doubled in a run, one of his two hits and two runs batted in on the day. Randal Grichuk had a first inning home run, one of the two home runs he hit on the day. And the hit parade continued. Danny Jansen homered to cap the scoring in the first inning and he added two hits later and is hitting a cool .556 thus far this spring.

All this and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. wasn’t in the lineup. The Jays have what it takes offensively to challenge for the wild card this year. With the injuries the New York Yankees have sustained, Toronto could battle for the division for a sustained amount of time as well.

Regardless of the success of the Toronto Blue Jays, they are a young and talented team and will be fun to watch this season.
