Initially, the Miami Marlins signed Victor Mesa Jr as the second part of a deal in 2018. As it turns out, he was the best player in the deal.

HIALEAH,FL-The Miami Marlins signed Victor Mesa Jr in May of 2018 for the sum of $1M as the second part of a mega-deal that included his brother Víctor Víctor Mesa.

This spring has been a tale of two Mesas, while one has been in ascent the other has been in a free fall in the organization’s top 30 prospects.

What at first was a throw-in piece to a deal for the fish, has turned out to be more than that. In his first year as a pro, the younger Mesa was the player of the year for the Gulf Coast Marlins.

In 47 games with Miami’s rookie league team, the talented outfielder hit .284, went yard once, smacked nine doubles and knocked in 24 runs.

In his final year in Cuba’s Sub-18 league, Mesa Jr. led the league in hitting (.440), slugging (.666) and on-base percentage (.560).

The younger of the Mesa siblings was the batting champion in the Sub-15 World Championship in Thunder Bay two years ago when he hit .320.

His fluid left-handed swing could translate into good power numbers especially with maturity. He also works the count very well and has a good understanding of the strike zone for his age.

Although he has average speed he has great range and good arm in the outfield. Mesa projects to be a right fielder at the next level.

Hard work has paid off for the young man who debuted last year in the Miami Marlins top 30 and has worked his way all the way up to number 21 on the list bypassing his older brother on the chart.

This off-season Victor Mesa Jr worked with Miami based hitting guru Ricardo Sosa to work out some kinks in his swing and looks to have added 15 pounds of muscle.

There is a good possibility that Víctor Jr could start the season a low A Batavia this year and the team expects Mesa in the big  leagues by 2023 the latest.

Many are saying that this could be a breakout year for the young Cuban, don’t blink because you might miss something.
