For those of you in need of a remedy for the novel coronavirus, former Chicago White Sox slugger Dayan Viciedo has you covered.

According to an article published in Tokyo Sports today, former Chicago White Sox slugger Dayan Viciedo has the secret for combating the coronavirus. The secret is a staple in the Cuban diet and one of his favorite dishes, black beans.

Viciedo who has spent most of the off-season in the land of the rising sun decided to stay in Japan prior to the start of the campaign and then the start of the NPB season got postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first baseman for the Chunichi Dragons has taken up residence in the city of Nagoya for the time being in hopes of hitting the field soon.

Viciedo he doesn’t  have the virus was asked by the Japanese press why was he was eating black beans, he replied, “Black beans contain a bunch of minerals, vitamins (B1), folic acid, iron, magnesium, zinc and plenty of antioxidants. These things help build the immune system and act as anti-inflammatories.”

All this was said while Viciedo dined on a plate of black beans and rice. Could the power-hitting native of Remedios, Cuba be on to something?

One thing is for sure, his diet might be helping his hitting because in his four seasons with the Chunichi Dragons he has hit .303 with 84 bombs and 309 runs batted in, this includes a batting title in 2018 when he led the Central with an average of .348.

The team expects another big season from Viciedo who will hit fourth and play first base. Chunichi will combine the slugger with Dominicans Zoilo Almonte and Moises Sierra to give the Dragons a dangerous tandem in the meat of the order.

Viciedo, who has become a cult figure with the team is expected to be the face of the franchise this year and for years to come. Whether he’s prescribing home remedies or slugging home runs expect Dayan Viciedo to be a fixture in Nagoya for a long time.
