2020 MLB Season: Simulating NL games (April 10-12)
National League East
The last-place Miami Marlins finished off the final three games of their four-game set with the Atlanta Braves, winning two of them to gain a split for the series.
Although still consigned to last in the East, the outcome allowed the Marlins to creep within a game of both the Nationals and New York Mets.
On Friday, Elieser Hernandez held the Braves to two runs into the seventh inning, and the Marlins pen took it from there in a 3-2 win. Corey Dickerson’s fifth-inning home run provided the winning margin. The Braves managed only three hits against Hernandez, Yimi Garcia, and Brandon Kintzler. Johan Camargo’s eighth-inning pinch-hit home run that kayoed Hernandez produced the Braves’ only offense.
The Braves pounded Ryne Stanek for five runs in three innings Saturday and pulled away to an 11-0 win. Stanek was his own worst enemy, walking four of the 16 men he faced. Freddie Freeman’s second inning bases-loaded double powered a five-run rally.
On Sunday, Pablo Lopez pitched the Marlins to the series split, holding the Braves to a single run until needing final-out help from Garcia. The Marlins won 4-1. Dickerson again was the batting star, his two doubles driving home two runs.
