Former Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Chin-lung Hu is still playing baseball, having spent the past eight seasons in Taiwan. On Saturday, Hu became the fastest player in Chinese Professional Baseball League history to reach 1000 hits.

It has been some time since former Los Angeles Dodgers top prospect Chin-lung Hu has been on the major league radar. His time in affiliated ball came to an end in 2010, and after a year in the independent leagues, Hu headed back to Taiwan. Since then, he has spent the past eight seasons playing in the Chinese Professional Baseball League with the EDA Rhinos and the Fubon Guardians.

On Saturday, Hu made history in the CPBL. With a line drive base hit up the middle, he became the fastest player in the history of the league to reach 1000 hits in his career.

Of course, no one would have expected that Hu would have reached that milestone in Taiwan. He had been one of the Dodgers top prospects, considered one of the top 100 prospects in all of baseball prior to the 2008 season. Hu was expected to be the answer in the middle of the Dodgers infield, either at short or second.

He had impressed in his brief trial in 2007, hitting two homers and a triple in 31 plate appearances. That showing led to Hu getting a long look in 2008, as he made 65 appearances, but he was unable to replicate that success. Hu bounced between AAA and the majors for the next three seasons, before ultimately being released by the Indians.

Overall, in his major league career, Hu produced a .176/.225/.259 batting line in his 214 major league plate appearances, with just nine extra base hits. The two homers he hit in his trail in 2007 would end up being the only ones of his major league career.

Hu has found far more success in his homeland. He has been a star in the CPBL, producing an excellent .356/.395/.506 batting line, hitting 74 homers and 171 doubles. While his major league aspirations may not have come to fruition, Hu has still had a nice, lengthy career in professional baseball.
