2020 MLB Season: Simulating AL Games (April 24-26)

American League East

New York survived Friday and Saturday nail-biters against the Indians. On Friday, the Yankees scored five runs in the fifth for Masahiro Tanaka, only to watch Adam Ottavino surrender a 6-3 advantage in the seventh and eighth. Luke Voit’s ninth-inning walk-off homer won it 7-6.

On Saturday the Yankees trailed Mike Clevinger 5-3 into the seventh. But when Clevinger left, they tied into Oliver Perez and Hunter Wood for three runs and  6-5 win nailed down by D J LeMahieu’s two-RBI double. LeMahieu had earlier homered off Clevinger.

The Indians took Sunday’s game 10-5 on Domingo Santana’s three-hit, five-RBI game. Two of Santana’s hits left the yard, one each off starter Luis Cessa and Tommy Kahnle.

Baltimore took two of three from visiting Toronto and rose to third place in the league’s most competitive division. The Orioles trailed 6-2 Friday when Jose Rondon’s home run touched off a four-run game-tying rally in the seventh. In the eighth, Austin Wynns and Pedro Severino crashed back-to-back doubles for the winning 7-6 margin.

Kohl Stewart shut out the Jays 3-0 Saturday, allowing four hits in eight innings. Severino homered again, his sixth-inning blast accounting for all of Baltimore’s offense. The Jays avoided a sweep with a 4-3 Sunday victory behind Matt Shoemaker and two relievers. Catcher Danny Jansen homered and drove in two runs.

The Tampa Bay Rays halted a skid that had reached six straight losses with a sweep of visiting Kansas City. The opener went 11 innings before Manuel Margot’s home run gave Tampa a 7-6 edge. Charlie Morton beat the Royals 6-3 Saturday, winning for the first time in four decisions. Ji-Man Choi homered and drove in two runs.

On Sunday, Blake Snell closed out the sweep with seven strong innings. Brandon Lowe’s three-run home run highlighted a five-run Rays seventh in the 9-3 decision.
