David Ortiz knows a thing or two about cheating. He should keep his cries about the Boston Red Sox “punishment” in the wake of their cheating scandal to himself.

Former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz has always been one to speak his mind, and the major league cheating scandal has been no different. He did not see anything wrong in the Astros conduct, instead blaming current A’s pitcher Mike Fiers for AstroGate, calling him a snitch. Anything to get ahead, right?

Naturally, one could not expect Ortiz to remain silent about the Red Sox own cheating scandal. Finally, after weeks; nay, months of waiting, Boston got the punishment due. That punishment, with the suspension of a scout/video operator for the 2020 season and the loss of a second round draft pick, was barely a slap on the wrist.

But even that was too much for Ortiz. He claimed that the “punishment” was unfair to the Red Sox, especially compared to the punishment handed out to the Astros. Yet, if one was to ask the majority of baseball fans, they would say both punishments were far too lenient.

To be fair, Ortiz does know a thing or two about cheating. He was named in the Mitchell Report after failing a PED test in 2003, but that was just a mistake. Ortiz swore to get to the bottom of that failed test, vowing to give us all the answers when he did. Well, we’re still waiting. Instead, he is just passing the buck, saying he “tested positive” because too many players on the Yankees did so.

Ortiz also knows what it’s like to get a pass after cheating. His PED transgressions are essentially forgotten, with the loveable Big Papi getting a pass. You know, like how the Red Sox basically got a pass for their sign stealing scandal.

The saying goes that people in glass houses should not throw stones. Ortiz has essentially ignored that advice, firing rocks by the handful while ignoring the giant panes of glass behind him. But considering his vested interest in the Red Sox, and his own cheating history, what else should we expect? He will continue to defend the actions of the Astros and Red Sox, while thundering against the likes of Fiers, who want to game to be on an even playing field.

David Ortiz feels that the Boston Red Sox punishment was far too strict. Until he takes responsibility for his own actions to cheat the game, maybe he should just shut up.
