2020 MLB Season: Simulating AL games (May 1-3)

American League East

The Red Sox stimulated Texas’ slow, steady decline from early contention. On Friday, Nathan Eovaldi pitched well into the seventh inning and Jackie Bradley Jr. drove in two runs with a pair of doubles in a 4-3 win over Kyle Gibson.

One day later, Rafael Devers doubled and homered and Andrew Benintendi doubled twice to lead a 5-2 win for Collin McHugh, his fifth.

The Rangers averted a sweep on a five-hit pitching performance by Jordan Lyles Sunday. Willie Calhoun and Joey Gallo both delivered key home runs setting up a 7-3 final that evened Lyles’ record at 2-2.

The Yankees held pace in Toronto, surviving a 7-4 Friday loss. The Jays hit New York starter J.A. Happ with a three-run first inning, then broke a 3-3 tie with a four-run seventh. Three-run home runs by Randal Grichuk and Lourdes Gurriel fired each big inning.

The Yanks won 8-6 Saturday led by Gary Sanchez’s three-run home run in a five-run third. They took Sunday’s game 6-1 behind Luke Voit’s three-run first-inning home run. Masahiro Tanaka spread out seven hits.
