The young Cuban is one of the most sought after prospects for this July 2nd, although he won’t sign until the next signing period. MLB.COM ranks the infielder 18th amongst the top 30 international prospects.
How have you kept in shape during the stoppage in play?
It has been very difficult to stay in shape, but I have kept training and taking all the possible precautions of course. I have been working hard and preparing myself for the next level which is a notch above from where I was.
You have been compared Alexei Ramirez, give me your opinion about that comparison?
It gives me great pride that I’m being compared to such a great player, one that I’ve watched the trajectory of his career since I was a child. I want to follow his example and make my way to the big leagues.
When you make your debut in the minors, what is your goal?
My goal is to start out of the gate fast and keep advancing through the minors and eventually make it to “The Show”.
At what level will you commence your career?
They are telling me that I might come stateside to start my pro career and I’m also cognizant that I will be facing stiff competition in my first season. I know that I will be facing the toughest pitching I’ve ever faced, for that reason, I’m preparing rigorously.
You can play various positions, what position will you play at the next level?
I can basically play every position in the infield, but as of right now I will primarily be a shortstop when I do commence my pro career.
Is there any player you admire Cuban or other?
I admire Alexei Ramirez because of our similarities, but I also admire Francisco Lindor because of his immense talent.
