There is talk of division realignment to give life to a 2020 MLB season. What would the realignment look like and which teams would benefit from it?
Major League Baseball continues to brainstorm efficient ways to execute a 2020 season. The chief ideas to this point are a three-state plan splitting teams amongst Florida, Arizona, and Texas for league play, and a regional plan consolidating divisions from six to three, but allowing clubs to play at their home stadiums.
USA Today took a look at the regional plan in a recent article, restructuring MLB divisions as follows:
East
New York Yankees and Mets, Boston Red Sox, Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins
West
Los Angeles Dodgers and Angels, San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners
Central
Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers
