MLB Players: The All-Mexican Team

Vinny Castilla, 3B (Oaxaca, Mexico)

Vinny Castilla played in 16 MLB seasons between 1991 and 2006. Though he spent time on six different teams, he mostly played with the Colorado Rockies.

For a stretch, Castilla was one of the best hitters in the game, stringing together a 5-year streak of seasons with 30 or more home runs while hitting .302 with a .893 OPS. Within that stretch, Castical was selected to be an All-Star 2x and won three Silver Slugger awards.

In all, Castilla would finish his career with a slash line consisting of a .276 AVG | .321 OBP | .797 SLG. His 18.1 bWAR and 19.4 fWAR average out to an 18.7 aWAR, 7th best among Mexican players.

Yovani Gallardo, RHP (Penjamillo, Mexico)

Yovani Gallardo was a starter for 12 MLB seasons on five different teams. Mostly, he pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers where he was actually quite a decent pitcher.

In fact, in eight seasons with the Brew Crew, Gallardo sported an 89-64 record with a 3.69 ERA. This level of performance carried on into his 9th season while with the Texas Rangers before fizzling off.

His performance in his final three seasons (19-26 | 5.80 ERA | 1.571 WHIP) resulted in his retirement in 2018. In all, however, his 21.1 aWAR places him 6th on the all-time list for Mexican MLB players.
