Times are tough right now for minor league teams and the Pensacola Blue Wahoos have come up with a remarkable solution to recoup some lost money.

There should be minor league baseball happening tonight at Pensacola Blue Wahoos Stadium. There is not. Not to say the stadium is completely empty though. The batting cages may be active, there might be video games in the clubhouse, and surely there are people running around the field itself. That is if someone booked the stadium through Airbnb.

How great of an idea is this? The Minnesota Twins minor league affiliate in Pensacola has opened up their entire stadium, for up to ten guests at a time for $1,500 a night. This is a clever idea and the novelty of it alone should get a few paying customers through the turnstiles, since a few paying customers aren’t attending any games anytime soon.

Full access to the entire stadium! Ping pong in the clubhouse, while playing cards or watching television before heading over to your individual stall to get dressed. Sitting there, reading the newspaper in your stirrups and biker shorts, mimicking every pregame ritual of every one of your baseball heroes before you.

Off to the batting cages to take some cuts before heading onto the field for a simulated game. Spending hours chasing down fly balls in the outfield and running the bases before retiring to the showers and then the mock press conference.

Might as well head back out to the field, where you have set up your camping gear to sleep under the stars in your tent, in centerfield.

I think the brass of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos have something here. Offering a top-notch experience and at a reasonable price, granted you get a few friends together to help foot the bill.

Minor league teams are always coming up with the best uniform combinations, in-game activities to keep fans engaged, and fan giveaways. Now one team is raising the bar and providing the opportunity for one great experience.
