2020 MLB Season: Simulating AL games, June 1-4
By Bill Felber
In this 2020 MLB season simulation, Cleveland lets one slip against Minnesota.
The Indians lost a golden opportunity to close ground on the Twins. After splitting the first two games of their home series with the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland scored twice off closer Brandon Workman in the ninth inning Wednesday to force extra innings, only to lose the game 5-4 in the 10th.
Domingo Santana’s home run, followed by Delino DeShields’ triple and a Carlos Santana single, had forged the 4-4 tie. But Oliver Perez, 2-2, couldn’t keep Andrew Benintendi in the park in the 10th, and his home run proved to be the game-winner.
Cleveland had taken the Monday game 7-3 behind Shane Bieber, 7-2. Boston won 7-4 on Tuesday Xander Bogaerts’ eighth-inning two-run home run providing a cushion.
Mike Montgomery evened his record at 4-4 against the White Sox Tuesday, and Hunter Dozier homered with three RBIs in Kansas City’s 9-4 victory.
But the Sox came back behind Lucas Giolito, 7-3, to win 5-1 Wednesday, then took th4e series with an 11-3 victory Thursday for Dallas Keuchel, 4-4. Leury Garcia homered and drove in three runs.
