A glimpse of Minnesota Twins top prospect Royce Lewis’s YouTube Channel.

As major league players continue the lull of waiting for a decision to be made about the upcoming season, some have chosen to use their time productively. Minnesota Twins prospect Royce Lewis has created his own YouTube Channel as a way to show fans a behind-the-scenes way of a professional baseball player.

Major League Baseball is trying to sell itself as being faster, younger, louder, with the “We Play Loud” commercials which aired last season. All this seems to justify the bat flips, the carrying of the bat to first base after hitting homers, the two-minute choreographed hand-shakes.

At the risk of being called a Boomer, I think all those things are garbage and don’t enhance the game one bit. What does bring the younger crowd closer to the game, is reaching them on their platform. Social media. Royce Lewis is growing his fan base by growing the list of subscribers to his YouTube Channel.

Lewis was the first overall pick in the 2017 draft and sits atop the list of Top Prospects in the Twins minor league system. Lewis should appear in the majors either this year or next and is sure to have a large following when he does.

Motivated with the prospect of getting into broadcast journalism one day, Lewis plans to give fans an up close and personal look at his lifestyle. One of his first videos was a tour of his modest living arrangements followed up by a video of his quarantine essentials.

Lewis seems like a good kid who will have a great future on the ball diamond followed by a good career in the broadcast booth. I am proud of him for expanding his horizons and getting in front of the camera.

I will be interested to see if he keeps up with this once he becomes a regular on the Twins roster. Living in a fishbowl may not be as easy once he traversing major league ballparks listening to the heckling of major league fans.

Here’s hoping for the best for young Royce Lewis.
