In this 2020 MLB season simulation, the Dodgers and the D-Backs set the stage.

The Diamondbacks and Dodgers continued to march in lockstep toward the first of their 19 meetings 10 days from now. Arizona maintained its slim advantage by beating the Padres Friday and Saturday.

Christian Walker doubled, tripled, and drove in two runs Friday to support Merrill Kelly, 6-1. The final was 6-4. On Saturday the D-Backs took a 12-inning thriller 5-4 that was settled by David Peralta’s walk-off home run. After San Diego took a 4-3 lead in the top of the 11th, a Jurickson Profar error allowed the tying run to score. Kirby Yates, 4-2, took the loss.

The Padres did come away with a 5-3 win Sunday behind Chris Paddack, 5-3. Tommy Pham, Wil Myers, and Fernando Tatis Jr. all homered, tagging the loss on Mike Leake, 5-2.

The Dodgers beat Colorado 5-1 Friday behind Clayton Kershaw, 5-3. But they lost their chance to gain ground Saturday when Charlie Blackmon’s grand slam highlighted a seven-run ninth inning against Joe Kelly and Kenley Janssen. Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story also delivered key hits during that rally.

The Dodgers recovered Sunday, riding two Cody Bellinger home runs to a 7-4 victory.
