The Field of Dreams game will go on as scheduled, though the Cardinals have replaced the Yankees.

When the 2020 baseball season was in doubt, one game that would have gone by the wayside would have been the game played on the Field of Dreams field in Dyersville, Iowa. Thankfully the season will take place, albeit in a shortened version, and the game with the cornfield fence will take place as well.

A temporary 8,000-seat stadium is nearing completion at the site where the movie Field of Dreams was filmed. The New York Yankees were to take on the Chicago White Sox, had the original 2020 season played out.

With the new schedule coming out and the Sox not playing the Yankees in the shortened season, the St. Louis Cardinals have been tabbed to fill in.

The game is scheduled to be played on August 13th and will be the first major league game played in the state of Iowa.

The nostalgia surrounding the movie which was released in 1989, continues to be strong.

Having the Yankees play in this game would have garnered quite a following. Watching an Aaron Judge moonshot which disappears into the night and lands in a field of corn would have been the highlight of the year.

Unfortunately, the Yankees have been removed from this game and the Cards move into center stage.

Aside from being across the way from the original baseball field, it is unclear what other connections the game will have to the movie.

This is an opportunity for the game of baseball to win back some fans or make a splash other than just the game.

Although fans may not be allowed to be in attendance, Major League Baseball can really play this up. Ray Liotta or Kevin Costner could throw out the first pitch. A Dr. Moonlight Graham look-alike can give COVID related medical advice in between innings.

For the good of baseball, the Field of Dreams game will go on as planned and the Cardinals have eked their way into the competition.
