Los Angeles Dodgers: David Price opts out of 2020
Today, David Price of the Los Angeles Dodgers announced that he will opt-out of 2020.
Earlier this offseason, prior to COVID-19 shutting down all American professional sports, the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled off a monster blockbuster trade. The Dodgers would receive OF Mookie Betts and LHP David Price in exchange for OF Alex Verdugo and some infielder named Jeter.
The move would drastically improve an already elite Dodger team and officially commence a rebuilding stage for the Sox.

However, in the months since the sport shut down back in March, it became clear that some players wanted to have the option to opt-out of the season if they felt that they would be putting themselves or their families in danger of contracting the coronavirus.
Now, we receive official word that David Price is decided to sit out of the 2020 season via Jeff Passan of ESPN.
In a statement addressed to Dodgers Nation, Price cited his health and his family’s health as the main reasons for his decision. He also issued an apology to the fans and the team, saying, “I’m sorry I won’t be playing with you this year, but look forward to representing you next year.”
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Price was due to make $11.9M for the shortened season. He is owed $64M through 2022 under his current contract, though, according to Spotrac, Boston retains a reported 50% of remaining 2020-2022 salaries
Earlier this week, Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout expressed his discomfort in playing the 2020 season amid the pandemic. He has cited his wife’s pregnancy as a main area of concern.
To this point, however, the Los Angeles Dodgers southpaw is the biggest name to choose to opt-out of the season. Fortunately, the Dodgers have a deep rotation with the likes of Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw to rely on.
