The Washington Nationals are without a pair of their young outfielders due to coronavirus protocols.

On Tuesday, it was noticeable that something was missing for the Washington Nationals. While they may have been participating in workouts, something just was not right. Eventually, it was noticed that neither young superstar Juan Soto nor Victor Robles were available.

As it turns out, both players are currently in isolation. Soto and Robles both had contact with another teammate who tested positive for COVID-19, necessitating that they quarantine for the time being.

It is notable that neither player is currently exhibiting any symptoms of the coronavirus. This is strictly a precautionary measure, with both players expected to be back on the diamond as soon as they are cleared.

Losing either player for a considerable length of time would be a tremendous blow to the Nationals’ hopes. Robles had a solid rookie campaign in 2019, producing a .255/.326/.419 batting line with 33 doubles, 17 homers, and 28 steals. Defensively, Robles led NL center fielders in range factor and was third overall in outfield assists.

Soto, although younger, has had an impressive beginning to his career. The NL Rookie of the Year runner up in 2018, he took the next step to stardom in 2019. In his two seasons, Soto has produced a .287/.403/.535 batting line, hitting 57 doubles, 56 homers, and stealing 17 bases. He appears to be on the cusp of being the next Nationals’ superstar, a building block for the foreseeable future.

Right now, all indications are that both players will be back on the diamond relatively soon. It is just a matter of their being cleared to participate. However, with the shortened training camp, and the short season, the Nationals need to get both back as soon as they can.

The Washington Nationals are currently without Juan Soto and Victor Robles. Hopefully, the Nationals’ dynamic duo will be back in camp soon.
