This infield contains the reigning home run king in Pete Alonso who posted a .951 OPS with 53 HR. He is one of the top sluggers in all of baseball after just one season in the bigs.
The starting second baseman, Ozzie Albies, might be one of the most underrated players in the entire MLB as he is always behind the shadow of Ronald Acuna Jr. and Freddie Freeman in Atlanta. With an 8.4 fWAR, Albies is 25th among all MLB players the past two seasons which were his first two full seasons. Albies is quietly a budding superstar in the MLB.
Rafael Devers of the Boston Red Sox at third base was quietly one of the best hitters in the entire MLB at just 22 years old in 2019. Devers’ 252 hard-hit balls led the entire MLB as well as his 90 extra-base hits. Now at 23 years old, Devers is already one of the games elite hitters and still has room to grow as a player.
Fernando Tatis Jr. at shortstop is one of the most intriguing players in the MLB right now, and he was amazing in his 84 games in 2019 for the San Diego Padres. His .969 OPS and .398 wOBA both ranked 7th among all hitters with at least 300 PA. Not to mention he tallied 16 SB and a 3.6 fWAR in half a season. Tatis Jr. has an incredibly bright future.
The catcher position is certainly the weakest spot here, but Will Smith of the Dodgers was very good as a rookie in 2019. In 54 games he hit 15 HRs and posted a .904 OPS. Whether he can keep that type of production up for a full season remains to be seen, but the potential is there regardless.
