Just a day after seemingly announcing his retirement, New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German has changed his mind.
On Friday, New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German dropped a bombshell on Instagram. In a series of posts, he announced his intention to leave baseball behind, seemingly heading off into retirement. At 28 years old, and with just two major league seasons, that decision was a complete shock to the baseball universe.
It now appears as though German has changed his mind. Approximately 22 hours later, he once again took to Instagram, and posted an apology while stating his intention to continue his career.
At this point, no one knows what is going on with German. This includes the Yankees, as manager Aaron Boone stated that there has not been any contact between him and the organization.
This may be something that the Yankees want to get sorted out. German was not going to be a part of the abbreviated season, as his domestic abuse suspension will last throughout the 2020 campaign and the first three games of the following year. A lack of communication, under normal circumstances, would not be a surprise.
But these are not normal circumstances. German specifically mentioned the mental toll that being away from the Yankees this year has taken, which likely had a lot to do with his original announcement. In stating his quest to be a better person overall, this post, and his initial claim of retirement, could be a cry for help.
It is also worth noting that the present situation is entirely of German’s doing. His actions prompted the 80 game suspension, and are why he is not able to be with his teammates this year. Hopefully, he can take this opportunity to get the help that he needs and find himself in a better mental space.
Domingo German is now saying that he is not retiring from the New York Yankees. However, not even the Yankees know what is going on with German any longer.
