Third base is a potential area of concern for the Atlanta Braves. Let’s look at some possible options on the trade block.

The Atlanta Braves knew that third base could be an area of concern this offseason. They had attempted to bring back Josh Donaldson to solidify the position, only to see him bolt to Minnesota. In his stead, the duo of Johan Camargo and Austin Riley have not exactly set the world afire. It is a glaring weakness in what has been one of the more productive offenses in the National League.

Given those issues, the Braves may look at the trade market over the next few weeks. Let’s take a look at some of the possible options.

Todd Frazier

Essentially signed as an insurance option, Todd Frazier has become the Texas Rangers’ primary first baseman this year.

Over his career, he has been a solid source of power, and even had three seasons of double digit steals in his younger days. While those days are behind him, Frazier is still a respectable power hitter with a solid batting eye who can steal a base on occasion. Heading into Wednesday, Frazier had produced a .304/.371/.500 batting line with two homers and five doubles in 62 plate appearances.

He has also been a solid defensive third baseman. Although he has spent most of the 2020 season at first, Frazier did save six runs at third last season while showing above average range at the hot corner.

Signed to a one year deal with an option for 2021, Frazier can also be an option for Atlanta for next year. As the upcoming free agent class at the hot corner is less than impressive, having that extra year of control could make a difference for Atlanta. And, should Riley develop as a third baseman, Frazier’s ability to play first and third would make him a valuable bench option.

Todd Frazier will likely be the best third baseman that could be available on the trade market. He would be a perfect fit for the Atlanta Braves.
