After just 60 games with the Toronto Blue Jays, Bo Bichette has done something that no other major league shortstop has ever accomplished.
In just 212 plate appearances last season, Bo Bichette served notice that a potential star was being born. Part of the Toronto Blue Jays collection of second generation players, Bichette made his debut on July 29 and immediately serve notice that he was set to become of the bright young stars in the game.
It took just 60 games before Bichette made his impact upon the Major League Baseball record books as well. He has now gone seven consecutive games with an extra base hit and an RBI, a new record for shortstops.

Bichette served notice as to his potential during his 46 games trial in 2019. He produced an excellent .311/.358/.571 batting line, hitting 11 homers and 18 doubles in his 212 plate appearances. Although his 50 strikeouts were cause for concern, there was no denying how impressive the start to his career was.
He has not slowed down this season. Heading into Saturday’s slate of action, Bichette has produced a .356/.387/.678 batting line in his 62 plate appearances, with four doubles, five homers, and stealing four bases. Bichette has even improved his contact rate, with just ten strikeouts on the year.
It is a part of the evolution of a player who was considered to be a future star at short. He was a consensus top 20 prospect prior to the 2018 and 2019 seasons, a player who was expected to be an absolute game changer.
To this point, he has lived up to that billing. He has been excellent with the bat and solid with the glove, showing above average range at short. Bichette has appeared to be the building block it was hoped he would become, and a possible extension candidate despite his remaining six years of team control.
It has not taken long for Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette to make history. Considering how he has looked this far in his career, this may not be the last time he makes history either.
