The Philadelphia Phillies have placed Roman Quinn on the Injured List for precautionary reasons.

The Philadelphia Phillies season has already been interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They were the team that the Marlins had faced when the outbreak ravaged their roster, forcing Miami to make a flurry of trades to even field a team. Although no one on the Phillies tested positive at the time, their series against the Yankees was postponed just to be safe.

Unfortunately, the pandemic may be rearing its head once again. The Phillies have placed Roman Quinn on the Injured List after he reported minor symptoms this morning.

It is worth noting that Quinn is away from the team as a precautionary measure. He has not officially tested positive at this point, but the Phillies cannot be too careful. Even as a bystander, they know too well what could happen.

The 27 year old Quinn had finally started to show signs of being the player that the Phillies had hoped for. A one time top prospect, he had struggled to find a role in Philadelphia. This season had been different, as he had essentially been in a time share with Adam Haseley. In his 37 plate appearances, Quinn had posted a .278/.297/.500 batting line, with three doubles and a homer.

For the Phillies, this leads to some potential issues. With Haseley and Quinn on the IL, Scott Kingery essentially becomes the starting center fielder with Andrew McCutchen as his backup. Kyle Garlick, who was recalled to majors, will slot in as the new backup at the corner outfield spots.

It is also important to watch for the results of Quinn’s testing. At this point, there is no reason to be concerned as his minor symptoms could simply be a cold. But if he does test positive, this could be yet another issue that the league will need to overcome in their quest to have the 2020 season continue.
