Mitch Moreland

It has been a fulfilling four years for Mitch Moreland as a part of the Boston Red Sox. He won a World Series and was named to the All Star Game in 2018, and has become a steady part of the lineup.

This year, Moreland has taken his production to another level. A relatively streaky hitter at times, he has been on fire to this point of 2020. Heading into Sunday, he has posted a .300/.349/.775 batting line, hitting six homers in 43 plate appearances. His 191 OPS+ not only leads the team, but dramatically outpaces the mark set by Xander Bogaerts in second.

While Moreland is earning a prorated $2.5 million for 2020, and has a very affordable $3 million bonus for next year, there is a reason to look for a trade. Michael Chavis needs a spot in the lineup, with first base being the best option. As the Red Sox are in a rebuilding year, they need to know if Chavis can be a part of the future.

Although first base is not necessarily a concern for majority of the contending teams, the addition of the designated hitter in the National League opens up more of a trade market. Moreland has also been productive against right handed hitters throughout his career, making him a perfect platoon option should a team need help against righties.

Mitch Moreland may not bring back a top prospect, but he could still be dealt from the Boston Red Sox. With his production thus far, he could attract plenty of interest.
