The Chicago White Sox appear close to calling up one of their prized pitching prospects in Dane Dunning.

With the announcement the Detroit Tigers plan on recalling their young power arm Casey Mize, how much longer will we have to wait before seeing the Chicago White Sox young gun in Dane Dunning?

Dunning was drafted in the 1st round by the Washington Nationals and then shipped to the White Sox as a part of the Adam Eaton trade. Lucas Giolito may have been the key piece in the trade, though Dunning is no slouch in the pitching department either.

Coming off of Tommy John surgery, which cost him the entire 2019 season, Dunning has a lively arm, with a K/9 of 10.2 over the course of three minor league seasons.

Dunning has not pitched above Double-A in his short career though could offer the White Sox some much needed depth. There was a reason Gio Gonzalez was on a string of minor league contracts before the ChiSox inked him to a major league deal this year. The $5M guaranteed over two years was a mistake at the time and won’t age well.

Where the Sox sit now, right in the mix for a playoff spot in the expanded playoff scenario we have in 2020, they can’t afford to keep running Gonzalez out every fifth day. If they like his versatilely and veteran presence, they should usher him off to the bullpen and open a slot in the rotation for Dunning.

With an exciting young team, the time is now for the White Sox to make a move. They are still a year or two away from seriously competing for the division title. With the current playoff format, of half the teams making it to the postseason, teams should be encouraged to get in, then see what happens.

Next. White Sox are the team of the future. dark

The Tigers are going to send out their prized prospect because they are in rebuilding mode. The Chicago White Sox should run theirs out because they want to win, now.
