The Washington Nationals have fired Jazhiel Morel, an administrator at their academy in the Dominican Republic, after he threw two cups of coffee on a convenience store clerk.

On Friday, a video surfaced on Twitter showing a man throwing two cups of coffee into the face of a clerk at a convenience store. he had walked behind the counter to get those two paper cups, leading to a conversation with the clerk at the store. He then headed to the door without paying as the clerk was not behind the counter before getting into another verbal altercation, which ended with his throwing the hot cups of coffee into her face before he walked out.

The person in the video was later identified as Jazhiel Morel, an administrator at the Washington Nationals academy in the Dominican Republic. The Nationals have since fired Morel due to this attack.

According to Jeff Passan, Morel will be turning himself in to the police on Monday to answer for this action.

light. More Nationals. Luis Garcia makes us all feel old

Morel had worked his way up in the Nationals’ academy. A one time catcher at Paine College, he had started at the academy in November 2017 as a video intern. He then spent two years as an administrative assistant before becoming an administrator at the academy in November, becoming a part of the day to day operations.

Understandably, that time with the Nationals is over. As general manager and president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo said to ESPN: “We do not tolerate this type of behavior in our organization” when explaining the reason to terminate Morel immediately.

The Nationals’ academy in the Dominican Republic has been a key part in the team’s ascension to World Series champions. Budding superstar Juan Soto had come from the academy, as had Victor Robles and prospect Luis Garcia, amongst others. In his way, Morel was a part of that success as part of the administration team.
