Chicago White Sox checking in on almost every available pitcher
The Chicago White Sox are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to find additional starting pitching at the trade deadline.
The Chicago White Sox find themselves in an enviable position as the trade deadline approaches. With a 20-12 record heading into Saturday’s slate of action, they find themselves in a three way tie for first in the American League Central. The lineup has been firing on all cylinders this season, as their long standing rebuild appears to be over.
The pitching staff, however, is still a question mark. While Chicago has had a strong showing from Lucas Giolito, Dylan Cease, and Dallas Keuchel, the rest of the rotation has struggled. As the White Sox stare down a postseason berth, improving the back of the rotation is imperative.
As such, the White Sox are looking at every potential option to upgrade the rotation. They have been linked to Lance Lynn, Robbie Ray, and Dylan Bundy over the past few days, although they would likely be interested in any other possible upgrade that would appear on the market between now and the deadline.
Lynn is the obvious prize of the deadline. The most coveted arm that is likely to be moved, he has posted an excellent 1.59 ERA and a 0.860 WHiP in his 45.1 innings, striking out 50 batters with just 14 walks. He is also under team control through next season, due just over $9.3 million in 2021.
Ray and Bundy would be rental pieces. Bundy has resurrected his career in Los Angeles, posting a 2.58 ERA and a 0.887 WHiP over his 38.1 innings, striking out 44 batters with just eight walks. Ray sits on the opposite end of the spectrum, as he is in the midst of a horrific year. He has posted a 7.84 ERA and a 2.000 WHiP in his 31 innings, issuing 31 walks while striking out 43 batters.
The White Sox have already made a move to shore up their roster, adding Jarrod Dyson on Friday as a defensive replacement/pinch runner. While that move should pay off, there are other, major moves that need to be made. In particular, the rotation needs to be addressed.
The Chicago White Sox are looking to do just that. They have already been linked to three starting pitchers, and others may be added as they come available.
