Joe West continued to show that he thinks that baseball is about him during the Washington Nationals game against the Atlanta Braves.

You can hear the calliope whenever Joe West is on the diamond. Between his horrendous calls behind the plate and his belief that he is the reason people come to the park, West has typically been one of the worst umpires in the game. With West being stationed behind the plate for the Washington Nationals game against the Atlanta Braves, one had to expect something would happen.

West eventually struck in the seventh inning. He stopped the game and demanded that security remove Nationals’ general manager Mike Rizzo from his suite.

The reason is uncertain. West can be heard saying that Rizzo was not wearing a mask, but he was sitting by himself in the suite. It is also worth pointing out that West was not wearing a mask either…

However, Rizzo had exited the suite and was reportedly yelling down at West. That really should not be much of a surprise, given his track record of questionable calls and general incompetence. perhaps Rizzo said something that struck West’s constantly frayed nerves to prompt the ejection.

To be fair, West probably did not need much of a reason. Deprived of his usual in person audience, he had to make certain that he remained on camera as much as possible. He had to reinforce the knowledge that the game is all about him in the only way he possibly could.

But this is just another day at the office. Whenever West is on the field, he has to be the center of attention. If that involves making a horrendous call just to establish his perceived dominance, then so be it.
