These three teams just might be the most dangerous when the 2020 MLB playoffs begin.

The evening air may be cooling off now as we prepare to enter the fall months, but the action across Major League Baseball is only beginning to heat up. In less than two weeks, the 2020 MLB playoffs will begin, where you can throw away the regular-season records and expect the unexpected to happen each and every night.

Seeding still remains up for grabs and teams like the Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, and even the New York Mets are still hanging around, looking to catch fire over these final few days of the regular season and sneak their way into the expanded playoff picture.

But for the most part, we have a good idea of the 16 teams who will participate in this year’s MLB playoffs. In this expanded format, any team can make a run, play well over a short stretch, and find their way into World Series contention, possibly even a sub-.500 team.

You can make a case for every team and justify as to why that particular team can make a run. The Los Angeles Dodgers have been MLB’s best team from the jump, the Tampa Bay Rays have quietly led the way in the American League for much of the year, and the Atlanta Braves can’t put together a three-man rotation, but they can outscore you on any given night.

But let’s look a bit further down the current playoff standings and focus on three teams who are primed to make a lot of noise this postseason and maybe even find themselves playing for a World Series title in 2020.

The New York Yankees can be dangerous teams in the MLB Playoffs.

Despite injury after injury to the New York Yankees roster, this organization has continued to find a way to keep themselves within striking distance of a playoff spot.

Now 47 games into the season, the Yankees are 26-21and in third place in the American League East, but are just half a game behind the Toronto Blue Jays and are comfortably 4.5 games ahead of the Seattle Mariners in the Wild Card standings.

Clint Frazier has filled in admirably with injuries limiting Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton to a handful of games this season, but Frazier won’t be depended on to provide the thump in this lineup for much longer.

Both Judge and Stanton are expected to return in the coming days and the pitching staff has been pitching really well lately, led by their top arms in Gerrit Cole and Masahiro Tanaka.

Jordan Montgomery and J.A. Happ have been decent and will be more effective in a short series. The wild card in New York’s rotation is Deivi Garcia. The 21-year-old pitched a seven-inning gem against Toronto in his last outing, striking out six and walking none. Having Garcia available to shorten games out of the bullpen will be a huge asset if the Yankees find themselves going deep into a series.

With their backs against the walls, this team has won five-straight games in impressive fashion and is still without some of their top pieces. Come October, the New York Yankees will be the Yankees we all figured they would be and AL teams at the top of the playoff standings should be concerned.
