The Boston Red Sox have been abysmal this season, save for one silver lining.

Alright, I get it, Boston Red Sox fans. you don’t appreciate the sarcastic nature of the title, but this season has been one to forget about for your favorite team.

Less than two years after posting the greatest single season in franchise history, one that included the team’s fourth World Series title since 2004, 2020 might arguably be the worst in Red Sox history.

Fortunately, yesterday the team got a memorable moment from a devout fan who somehow managed to climb up onto the Green Monster… from outside.

It’s not unusual for a fan to interrupt a game during a regular season. What is unusual, however, is that this season, because of strict COVID restrictions, fans aren’t allowed in stadiums.

What’s more, it’s also bizarre that a fan receives so much air time and attention from players, who can be seen above watching in amazement, and media outlets (guilty!) while interrupting a game. Again, this might be because he was the sole fan in the building and every word he uttered could be heard loud and clear.

“Boston loves New York!” this fan shouted while holding up a blue hat in the air. “9/11… Boston Medical!” he continued.

It sounds like this Red Sox fan wanted to express his adoration for New York post-9/11 and this was his first opportunity to do so since it was the only series the Yankees played in Boston this season.

As a former New Yorker, I appreciate this fan’s dedication to getting his message across, but how in the world did he on the Green Monster in the first place? I’ve done some digging, and somehow, in a world where everything seems to be caught on tape, this isn’t.

Anyway, if this season is rock bottom for the Boston Red Sox, one silver lining might be that there is only one way left to go, and that is up!
