Former Cleveland Indians utility man Russell Branyan was arrested on Saturday, charged with aggravated stalking and violating the conditions of his bail.

Former Cleveland Indians utility man Russell Branyan has found himself in the news, and not for a good reason.

On Saturday morning, Branyan was arrested on charges of aggravated stalking and violation of his bail conditions. While the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office did not provide any additional information on those charges, they did confirm that he had been released on bond shortly before this most recent arrest.

Branyan had been previously arrested on September 12 on a charge of felony assault. That charge had come about due to a domestic incident with his girlfriend, where he alledgedly smashed her phone and then attempted to strangle her. She had suffered injuries to her face, neck, and arm during their fight.

These are not Branyan’s first brushes with the law. Back in 2008, when he was with the Brewers, he was arrested and charged with domestic violence after a physical altercation with his wife. Then, in 2015, he was felony aggravated burglary when he broke into his now ex-wife’s home, stole multiple items, and tampered with the thermostat.

Branyan had spent 14 years in the majors, playing for ten different teams, but only appearing in over 100 games four times. He was the epitome of a Three True Outcome player, with over 50% of his plate appearances ending in a strikeout, walk, or homer. Overall, he produced a .232/.329/.485 batting line with 194 homers over his career.

Since his playing days, things have obviously not gone well for Branyan. His continued bouts with the law have to be concerning, especially given his pattern of violence against women. Hopefully, he will be able to get the help that he needs.
