Los Angeles Dodgers: Mookie Betts gets vote for President
One voter in Vermont thought highly enough of Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts that he voted for him for President.
Despite being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Mookie Betts still has a legion of fans in the Northeast. The one time Red Sox star made an impact upon his former club, a four time All Star who developed into one of the best players in the game. However, with the Red Sox looking to cut costs for the 2020 season, and the uncertainty of Betts signing a long term extension, he was traded to the Dodgers during the offseason.
That trade earned a great deal of disgust towards the Red Sox by the fans. The initial trade was rescinded based on the dubious claims that the front office did not realize that Brustar Graterol physically resembled a chunky fire hydrant. Instead, the second deal may have been even worse.
Betts, meanwhile, has been spared that ire. In fact, he is still so well regarded in the northeast that one voter in Vermont wrote him in for President in the November 3rd election.
It is a nice vote of confidence in the Dodgers outfielder. Unfortunately, even if Betts had somehow earned enough write in votes to win the presidency, he would not be able to take office. The 28 year old outfielder is too young to be President, as one has to be a minimum of 35 years old to take office.
Betts still had a strong 2020 campaign. He was a key factor in the Dodgers World Series title, producing a .292/.366/.562 batting line, hitting 16 homers and nine doubles while stealing ten bases in his 246 plate appearances. He won his fifth consecutive Gold Glove and his fourth Silver Slugger while placing second in the NL MVP vote.
Those accolades are just the beginning. Betts has established himself as arguably the best player in baseball at present, a true five tool talent who can catapult his teams to the next level. He is a generational player, and one that should never have been traded away.
That sentiment about Mookie Betts remains in the heart of Red Sox country. One Vermont voter wrote in the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder as their choice for President.
