After years of debate, the Cleveland Indians are finally going through the process of possibly changing their name.

The time has come. After the Washington NFL franchise decided that it was time to change their name, the spotlight began to shine upon the Cleveland Indians. The team had already taken steps to move away from their name and logo, phasing out Chief Wahoo and replacing him with the block C.

But that has not been enough. As such, the Indians are reportedly still working through options for a name change.

This is a process that had begun during the summer but is still ongoing. Plenty of factors have to be considered, from marketing to a new logo to how that name will tie in with the city and history of the team. It is a time consuming process.

And it is not one that may come to an end this year. The Washington franchise is going through the 2020 NFL season as the generic “Washington Football Team,” having dropped their former name entirely while attempting to find a new name.

Cleveland, presumably, is looking to avoid the same fate. However, if they are pressured into dropping the Indians moniker before they have that new name, the block C logo would work well for whatever generic name they would need. And we would all get used to seeing the Cleveland Baseball Team playing for however long was needed to find an answer.

No matter what the new name is, there will be those who are unsatisfied. There are some who feel a name change is unnecessary, while others may have a specific name in mind that is not selected. However, no matter what, change is coming. It may take time, but the Indians name will eventually be a part of the past.
