Justin Upton says Shohei Ohtani is the most talented player in baseball
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Justin Upton thinks teammate Shohei Ohtani, not Mike Trout, is the most talented player in baseball.
Justin Upton made waves during an appearance on ‘Fantasy Baseball Today Podcast’ on Wednesday, stating that between teammates Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, he believes Ohtani is the most talented player in baseball.
Now I know your first reaction is going to be freaking out. “How could Shohei Ohtani be the most talented player in baseball? He’s teammates with possibly the best player of all time.”
But Upton is right. Ohtani is the most talented player in baseball. Not the best, just the most talented.
It’s kind of obvious why right? Ohtani is a stud on the mound and at the plate. He quite literally can do anything on a baseball field at a major league level. In the same week, he could throw a complete game shutout and hit a walkoff homer. Not even Mike Trout could do that. There aren’t many guys in the game that can do both at that high a level.
So yes, Shohei Ohtani is the most talented player in baseball. There’s nobody in the game who can do everything he can do. That doesn’t make him the best player though. Mike Trout is the best player in Major League Baseball. He’s so good at what he does that it doesn’t matter he can’t pitch too.
But the fact remains, if Mike Trout tried to throw a complete game, he’d probably have a triple digit ERA. It’s just not his skillset. Maybe if he dedicated his life to pitching instead of hitting he’d be decent, but Mike Trout the position player only is good enough for me. Baseball Twitter can calm down now.
Nobody is saying Shohei Ohtani is better than Mike Trout. Just that he’s more talented at the game as a whole.
