MLB free agency: What teams are a fit for Michael Brantley?
George Springer has agreed to a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, which redirects the spotlight to his former teammate – Michael Brantley – as the top outfielder on the MLB free-agent market.
Brantley has solidified himself as one of the purest hitters in MLB, accomplishing four consecutive seasons batting better than .299 with an on-base percentage more than .350.
With infielder DJ LeMahieu re-signed by the New York Yankees, Brantley is now the purest remaining hitter on the market, as well.
Despite his unquestioned offensive prowess, the 12-year veteran has yet to come to terms with a team this offseason. There are several reasons why:
- The vast majority of teams already have their outfield configured.
- Brantley is worthy of a multi-year contract; however, his age (33) cautions clubs from extending such an offer.
- Having come so close to winning the World Series on two occasions, Brantley’s assumed landing spots navigate only to contenders.
