MLB free agency: What teams are a fit for Michael Brantley?

George Springer has agreed to a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, which redirects the spotlight to his former teammate – Michael Brantley – as the top outfielder on the MLB free-agent market.

Brantley has solidified himself as one of the purest hitters in MLB, accomplishing four consecutive seasons batting better than .299 with an on-base percentage more than .350.

With infielder DJ LeMahieu re-signed by the New York Yankees, Brantley is now the purest remaining hitter on the market, as well.

Despite his unquestioned offensive prowess, the 12-year veteran has yet to come to terms with a team this offseason. There are several reasons why:

  1. The vast majority of teams already have their outfield configured.
  2. Brantley is worthy of a multi-year contract; however, his age (33) cautions clubs from extending such an offer.
  3. Having come so close to winning the World Series on two occasions, Brantley’s assumed landing spots navigate only to contenders.
