Los Angeles Dodgers looking to become dynasty with Trevor Bauer
The Los Angeles Dodgers are not content with their championship in 2020. The eight time defending NL West champions, and the winners of the 2020 World Series, the Dodgers have their eyes on the prize once again. It is time to put the hammer down and become a dynasty.
Los Angeles took another step towards that goal on Friday. They have signed Trevor Bauer to a three year deal worth $102 million, adding another impressive arm to their stable.
Los Angeles Dodgers answer questions with Trevor Bauer
While there is no questioning the Dodgers’ roster, their place atop the NL West had become precarious. The Padres had made numerous moves this offseason to upgrade their pitching staff, not only putting themselves into position to compete for the division, but to be considered a World Series favorite in their own right.
In adding Bauer, the Dodgers have now reclaimed that preseason throne. He will now join Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, and David Price to give Los Angeles what may be the best quartet of starters in the game.
Despite a pedestrian 5-4 record in 2020, Bauer had a dominant season. He posted a league leading 1.73 ERA and a 0.795 WHiP, striking out 100 batters with 17 walks over his 73 innings as he took home the NL Cy Young award. This continued a solid three year run where Bauer posted a 3.18 ERA and a 1.116 WHiP over his 461.1 innings, striking out 574 batters with 176 walks.
While one can argue that the Dodgers did not need Bauer, that is irrelevant. Adding the top pitcher, and arguably player, in free agency, is the type of move that championship clubs make. Even if it does not work out, no one can fault the front office and ownership for doing everything possible to continue to dominate.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to become a dynasty. Adding Trevor Bauer is just another step in that process.
