Minnesota Twins trying to keep pace with Chicago White Sox
At this point, the Chicago White Sox are viewed as the favorites in the AL Central. With their signing of Liam Hendriks and their acquisition of Lance Lynn, along with a dynamic offense, the White Sox appeared to be poised to take the division from the Minnesota Twins.
The Twins, meanwhile, have held the divisional crown for the past two seasons, barely holding on to a one game advantage last season. While that has not resulted in postseason success, they have at least been able to find their way to the dance.

However, at the start of the offseason, the Twins appeared to be more interested in cutting costs. They had let players such as Sergio Romo instead of paying what appeared to be an affordable option.
But that has changed in recent weeks. The Twins finally began upgrading their roster at the end of January, signing Andrelton Simmons and J.A. Happ. Nelson Cruz finally re-signed on a one year deal. And the Twins have upgraded their bullpen by bringing in former White Sox closer Alex Colome.
The question that the Twins will have to face is whether or not they have done enough. The White Sox still have the better team on paper and remain the favorites to win the division. Nonetheless, Minnesota has closed that gap.
Of course, the games are not played on paper. The action still has to take place between the lines, which makes a major difference. Seemingly every time we want to count the Twins out, they manage to surprise everyone and outperform expectations. That may well be the case once again in 2021.
The Minnesota Twins have started to become active over the past few weeks. It may not be enough to keep pace with the Chicago White Sox, but they have closed the gap.
