At this point in the offseason, former Boston Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. is the best center fielder remaining on the market. In fact, one could make the case that he is the best outfielder remaining regardless of position. A brilliant defensive center fielder, Bradley even had a solid year with the bat in 2020, posting a .283/.364/.450 batting line with seven homers and 11 doubles, chipping in five steals over his 217 plate appearances.

Yet, despite that strong season, Bradley is still looking for a home. Perhaps this is due to his contract demands as he is reportedly looking for at least a four year deal. While teams may not necessarily be willing to go to those lengths for someone who has been as inconsistent as Bradley has, he is still an intriguing option for teams in need of an outfielder.

Fortunately, there are still several teams looking to upgrade in the outfield. It is just a matter of finding the right fit, both in terms of a landing spot and the salary. Of course, given his reported contract demands, that may be easier said than done.

Where could Jackie Bradley Jr. end up? Let’s take a look at three possible landing spots.

Boston Red Sox

It would make sense for the Boston Red Sox to bring Jackie Bradley Jr. back. While they added Hunter Renfroe this offseason, and Alex Verdugo could play center, they really do not have a fit currently on their depth chart.

The Red Sox could bring Bradley back as a bridge until prospect Jarren Duran is ready for the majors. Despite his impressive showing during the winter leagues, he has yet to play above the AA level. Boston may want to give him more seasoning before handing him the reins in center.

Given the organization’s familiarity with Bradley, he would be a perfect fit as a one year bridge until that happens. However, Bradley is looking for far more than that, seeking out the sort of commitment that will ensure a spot in the lineup for years to come.

A reunion between Jackie Bradley Jr. and the Boston Red Sox would make sense. However, that will not happen unless Bradley dramatically changes what he is looking for in free agency.
