Just a few, short weeks ahead of 2021 spring training, the Trevor Bauer offseason free-agency saga has finally concluded. Last week, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner agreed to join the Los Angeles Dodgers after several months of messing with the hearts and minds of baseball fans across the country.

Honestly, what a relief. This saga had to conclude with a slightly dramatic flair as Bauer took to Twitter to apologize to New York Mets fans around the country.

Trevor Bauer apologizes to New York Mets fans

Bauer’s apology comes on the heels of a serious mix-up by his personal website management last week. On Friday, it was reported that the Mets and Dodgers made the list of finalists to sign the reigning Cy Young winner. What ensued was pretty baffling.

More Mets. Almora a perfect depth piece. light

According to Bauer, while he remained busy on the phone with his representation team, a page link was mistakenly posted live to his personal website. That link included a Bauer-signed Mets hat giveaway, prompting obvious reports that New York was his final free-agent decision.

Hours later, Bauer signed officially with the Dodgers, breaking the hearts of Mets fans everywhere. Bauer reports the link was mistakenly posted as his team had prepared marketing materials for several teams, truly not knowing his final decision until the minutes before news of his signing broke.

This may be somewhat of a bullet-dodged for Mets fans. Yes, Bauer is one of the best pitchers in the game. Yes, a rotation including Jacob deGrom, Marcus Stroman, Noah Syndergaard, Carlos Carrasco, and Bauer would have been the most feared in baseball. But, even without Bauer, this is still one of the best rotations in baseball. This team has its true superstar now after adding Francisco Lindor in the offseason. What’s best about this list of starting rotation and superstar talents?

None of them come close to possessing the ego-maniac personality that Bauer has. Bauer, regardless of his talent, was a massive headache for fans and media throughout the offseason. He spent his free-agency riling up fanbases on social media through videos detailing his top priorities in finding a new team while fielding pitches from fans on why he should join their respective teams.

Next. Will the Mets miss Bauer?. dark

His free agency has been relatively harmless, but Mets fans are avoiding unnecessary headaches with this guy. On the field, signing Bauer means adding one of the most electric starting pitchers in the game. But, off the field, he’s a question mark. It seems like a waiting game. When will Bauer say something unpleasant to the media, regarding fans or team ownership? When will he grow impatient with Dodgers management, as he has with other teams from his past?

New York Mets fans, you’ll be just fine without this headache.
