The New York Yankees Bronx Zoo days had long been in the rearview mirror. Gone are the days when the team dominated the back page of the tabloids due to clubhouse problems and ongoing spats between players, ownership, and coaches. Instead, stoic professionalism had descended over the organization, with the Yankees careful to avoid making waves.

But those days may be over. The Yankees could be facing a potential issue in their clubhouse, as Zack Britton did not mince words about teammate Domingo German.

New York Yankees facing issues with Zack Britton and Domingo German

German has not done himself any favors in the Yankees’ clubhouse. He had been suspended for violating the league’s domestic violence policy, missing the entire 2020 season due to the abbreviated nature of the campaign. His erratic social media posts, where he claimed to retire and then recanted, have not helped matters at all.

Britton is not hiding his disdain for German at all. In addition to his statement that he cannot control who is also on the team, he doubled down by saying that he did not care about whatever circumstances German may be going through these days. Considering how vocal Britton has been in support of female reporters who have dealt with harassment in the clubhouse, this should not be considered a surprise.

German is not the only player to have been suspended for domestic abuse that is on the Yankees roster. Closer Aroldis Chapman was suspended 30 games for his own violation of the domestic violence policy, but served his time without complaint or issue.

German, meanwhile, has done nothing to help his cause. It is something that manager Aaron Boone has notices as well, saying that German is not a lock for the fifth starter role. But this is something that the Yankees will need to address as well. There could be a problem brewing in the clubhouse before spring training really gets underway.
