Los Angeles Dodgers doing right by Andrew Toles
It has been over two years since Andrew Toles last suited up for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The outfielder has fallen on hard times of late, dealing with serious mental issues and having been arrested in 2020 for trespassing after he was found sleeping behind a FedEx building. His address at the time was given as “the streets of Key West,” a tragic fall for the Dodgers former outfielder.
But the team has not forgotten Toles. The Dodgers have renewed his contract for the coming year, continuing to provide support as he battles his mental health issues.

On the surface, this would seem to be a procedural move to maintain Toles’ rights in case he is able to return to the game. He was a solid player during his time in Los Angeles, although injuries limited his playing time. Toles produced a .286/.333/.459 batting line in his 249 plate appearances, with 14 doubles and eight homers.
But there is far more to this move than maintaining his rights. While he remains on the restricted list, and will not draw a salary, Toles will continue to receive other benefits, specifically his health benefits. This would allow Toles to receive the help he needs without worry.
It is truly the right thing to do. As a greater focus has been placed on mental health, there have been numerous trendy slogans and hashtags on social media. People claim that they will be there, but few actually take the time to offer the support needed.
The Dodgers are doing just that. While Toles is unable to collect his salary, he does have medical benefits. He can get the treatment he needs to get his life back on track. The Dodgers will be there if and when he is ready to return, but no matter what happens, they are showing their support in these difficult times.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are standing by Andrew Toles during his battles. By renewing his contract, they are providing needed support.
