Chicago Cubs minor leaguers are expected to report to spring training in the next two weeks. At this point, it appears that one of those players will not be making that trek for a long time.
On Wednesday, Cubs minor leaguer Jesus Camargo was arrested on felony drug related charges while driving in Colorado. Police found 21 pounds of methamphetamine and 1.2 pounds of oxycodone in a Cubs equipment bag in his car.

According to reports, Camargo was pulled over after speeding and drifting into other lanes on the highway. After being pulled over, he agreed to a search of his vehicle, where a canine unit took interest in the bag, which Camargo claimed that a friend told him he would be paid $500 to deliver to Denver.
He claimed that he thought the bag contained shoes and clothing, but that contradicted other statements where he said that he knew the bag contained illegal substances. While he claimed ignorance as to what drugs they were, it seems that he was aware of the contents before changing his story.
Prior to his arrest, Camargo was expected to pitch at the Double-A level. The now 25 year old had posted a solid 2019 campaign in the Carolina League after being converted to a full time reliever. He had posted a 3.59 ERA and a 1.087 WHiP in his 72.2 innings, striking out 68 batters with 23 walks.
Instead of possibly being a part of the Cubs’ future in the bullpen, Camargo’s future in the game is in question. The organization is also investigating the incident, and are awaiting additional information before determining a course of action. However, considering the charges he is facing, Camargo’s future in Chicago may be the least of his problems.
