At some point, the Montreal Expos will return. It seems inevitable, especially as the Rays are looking to split their time between Tampa Bay and Canada. Expansion has been discussed recently, although commissioner Rob Manfred claims that is off the table until stadium issues in Tampa Bay and Oakland are resolved. But it seems to be just a matter of time before the Expos make their return to the game.

That did not stop Tom Brady from giving Expos fans false hope. He posted a tweet claiming that he would be the new owner, coach, and player for the team, which would begin play in 2022.

Tom Brady and the Montreal Expos do have a connection

There is a connection between Brady and the Expos. He was taken in the 18th round of the 1995 MLB Draft by Montreal as a high school catcher. Brady went on to college to play football, a move that worked out well as he has become arguably the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

But it is clear that he has not forgotten his roots in baseball. And it would be interesting to see how he would fare on the diamond, even if it is just for some batting practice or to put on the shin guards and catch a bullpen. After all, unlike Tim Tebow, he was an actual major league prospect before focusing on the gridiron.

It also may not be a surprise if Brady was to eventually become a part of the ownership group of a new Expos franchise. He would add an impressive amount of star power to any prospective ownership group, potentially giving that final push needed to put Montreal over the top.

Unfortunately, if that is to happen, it will not be in 2022. There are a lot of hurdles that would need to be dealt with before a team would either move to Montreal or an expansion Expos squad to be announced. It just would not happen within a year.

Tom Brady has not forgotten his connection with the Montreal Expos. Unfortunately, his announcement that they were coming back was an April Fools’ joke.
