New York Mets postponements likely to continue this week
It has been almost impossible for the New York Mets to build any momentum thus far. Although we are entering the third week of the 2021 season, the Mets have had as many games postponed as they have played. Considering that their season has been a collection of starts and stops, it is not a surprise that they have been able to find any consistency.
These games have been postponed for numerous reasons. The initial series against the Nationals was postponed due to COVID, and the Mets endured consecutive rainouts on Sunday and Monday. Suddenly, their schedule is filled with doubleheaders and possible nightmare scenarios.
Weather not expected to be any better for New York Mets
As the Mets have run into numerous problems with the weather thus far, it should not be much of a shock that their one trek to Colorado will happen during the upcoming weekend. Yes, Colorado. In April. We all know where this is going.
Right now, the forecast for Denver over the upcoming weekend is not overly promising. It is expected to snow on Friday on through the evening, with a chance of a wintery mix on Saturday. With the way the Mets season has gone, that 30% chance on Saturday is likely closer to 100%.
This continues to put the Mets in a difficult spot. They already have five make-up games that will need to be played, with their first doubleheader occurring on Tuesday. Since this is their only trip to Colorado, if two games are postponed, making those games up could be an issue.
All of these delays and postponements will also have an effect on the diamond. The Mets offense has struggled this season as it is, and not being able to get these games in does not help. It has been impossible for the Mets to get into a rhythm in any way as they wait for their chance to actually get to play.
The New York Mets have as many postponements as they do games played this year. Based on the upcoming forecast, more postponements may be coming.
