Minnesota Twins game on Monday already postponed
The Minnesota Twins have been the latest team to be hit by the ravages of COVID-19. They had lost shortstop Andrelton Simmons to the disease early last week, and had their games on Saturday and Sunday postponed due to an unrelated outbreak. The hope was that they would be ready to go on Monday.
That is not going to happen. Instead, the Twins game against the Oakland A’s has been postponed, with tentative plans for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Minnesota Twins latest to fall victim to COVID
This delay is understandable. While Kyle Garlick was identified as a player who tested positive in the most recent outbreak, at least one other player and a staff member also tested positive. This delay will allow the Twins to make certain that no one else on the team has caught the virus.
The Twins are the second team to see their season paused due to COVID. The Nationals had the start to their season put on hold due to their own outbreak at the end of spring training, pushing the start of their season back to April 6.
Chances are, the Twins will not have to face that sort of a delay. Their outbreak does not seem to be nearly as bad as what the Nationals had to go through, at least not to this point. Nonetheless, it is beneficial to Minnesota, as well as their opponents, to be cautious and ensure that the virus has not spread any further.
Hopefully, the contact tracing and testing will have concluded by Monday. Those infected parties will be quarantined, and the Twins should be able to get back to action in the near future. Considering that this outbreak has occurred during their one visit to the Angels and A’s, it is all the more imperative to make certain that everything is under control.
The Minnesota Twins game against the Oakland A’s on Monday has already been postponed. Hopefully, this will be the last postponement of the series.
